

# Ketupat and Rendang are the Malaysian traditional dishes which very popular especially during eid.
So, what is ketupat ?
Ketupat is a type of dumpling made from rice and very popular among Malay communities in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, and Southern Thailand. There are different types of ketupat. The most popular are 'ketupat daun palas' and 'ketupat nasi'.'Ketupat daun palas' is made using glutinous rice wrapped in a triangular shape using 'palas' leaves Licuala). Whereas, 'ketupat nasi' is made of white rice wrapped in a square shape young coconut leaves.Ketupat is very popular during Eidul Fitri and Eidul Adha - muslims festivals. Eidul Fitri is a Muslims' festival to celebrate the end of a fasting month - Ramadhan. Whereas, Eidul Adha is to celebrate the Haj - Pilgrimage to Mecca.
For Malays, especially those from 'kampung' (villages) - they will feel that their celebration as incomplete if they do not have ketupat in their menu. Ketupat is usually eaten with rendang (a type of dry beef curry or dry chicken curry). Sometimes, ketupat is also served with chicken curry, accompanied with spicy peanut gravy.

Rendang is traditionally prepared by the Malay community during festive occasions. Though rendang is sometimes described as being like a curry, and the name is sometimes applied to curried meat dishes in Malaysia, authentic rendang is nothing like a curry.
